EARLY NEUROLOGICAL STIMULATION
In our breeding from the first days of our puppies' lives we take care about their harmonious growth and development both in psychical and physical terms. To reach this aim, we use early neurological stimulation methods bewteen 3rd - 16th day of their lives. Puppies differ from adult dogs in various ways. They are blind after birth and their alimentary canal needs regular stimulation by the bitch. She licks the puppies' stomachs in this way stimulating their digestion and defecating. During the first two weeks a newborn has the ability of recognising smell stimulae; it can suck and crawl. For a few days its body warmth is sustained by close contact with its mother and siblings. The research has shown, however, that despite such lack of maturity and limitations caused by this fact, puppies are very sensitive to touch, temperature and movement.
Thorough observations have confirmed that there is a period bewteen 3rd and 16th day of life when neurological stimulation allows reaching optimal effects. During this period a puppy's nervous system undergoes intensive growth and development and therefore some stimulae have great influence and are vital for further growth. The Bio Sensor Scheme advises 5 simple stimulating exercises to be done once a day bewteen 3rd and 16th day of puppies' lives. A series of exercises should be performed with each puppy separately.
The five exercises are as follows
1. Tactical stimulation Holding the pup in one hand, the handler gently stimulates (tickles) the pup between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. It is not necessary to see that the pup is feeling the tickle. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds
2. Head held erect Using both hands, the pup is held perpendicular to the ground, (straight up), so that its head is directly above its tail. This is in an upwards position. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds
3. Head pointed down Holding the pup firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downward so that it is pointing towards the ground. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds
4. Supine position Hold the pup so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling. The pup while on its back is allowed to sleep struggle. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds
5. Thermal stimulation Use a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for at least five minutes. Place the pup on the towel, feet down. Do not restrain it from moving. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds
The above exercises create an opportunity for the puppy to experience stimulation which does not occur normally at their stage of live. The purpose of doing so is to stimulate their nervous system which results in better achievements and faster development of the animal.
We must add at this point that early neurological stimulation cannot replace playing with the puppy as well as socialising with other dogs and people. A series of stimulating exercises is done once a day only. The time assigned to them must not be extended, since overstimulation may bring the opposite effect to the desired one and do more harm than give benefits.
Benefits coming from applying early neurological stimulation::
2.Stronger heart beats
3.Stronger adrenal glands
4.More tolerance to stress
5.Greater resistance to disease
